"My father is buried at Fort Sam and I buy a wreath for him and several others every year during the holidays. This year I ran late getting there, stood in line to get a couple of wreaths (my dad's is usually placed already since he is near a wreath point) and thought I will have these extras to lay down as I head to where my dad resides. As I was walking, I came across a mother and teenage son looking quite distressed standing near their husband/father's headstone. The woman, in tears, said she didn't know she had to buy a wreath ahead of time. This is where my extras came in handy. I handed her and her son a wreath, one for their loved one and one for them to share with someone else. A hug was shared and as I continued to make my way to my father's site, I ran into another family visibly distressed. Again- same story. Again - tears and hugs. This continued several more times. By the time I reached my father, my wreaths were gone; but as I suspected there was already one on his site. I had carried the exact number of wreaths needed. Thanks, Wreaths Across America - Official Page."

KIND STORY ALERT: "I recently attended my first OU v. OSU (Bedlam) football game. The new rules are that you take a clear purse into the stadium. So, I had my clear bag containing my drivers' license, credit card, and cash. The game was exciting, and OU won in the end. As we were leaving the stadium, I realized I had left my purse under the stadium seat. PANIC SET IN. I ran back through the crowd, back to my place to find my clear bag - it was gone! I started asking everyone, and they told me someone had picked it up. This angel appeared and said, "you are the lady sitting with the man with the orange jacket; I have your purse." It felt good to know that kindness and humanity are still active in our world." -Marlyse Beaty Summer Thanks for sharing!

Life is a Relay

10/7/2018

I awoke in the middle of the night with the notion life is a relay. In the right timing, we are given a baton to carry along our path or life cycle. Significant family members and friends are aware of our journey throughout its seasons, some casually observe while others on the front row cheer us on. They, too, hold their batons through life cycles contributing to the race in their unique ways. Numerous, senseless acts can knock us right off that road; some are of our own choosing while others seem insanely random. If we considered day-to-day the gazillion things that could sideline us, we'd hardly move at all. But we do keep moving, holding on ever so tightly to our batons with hopes of successfully passing at the right, intended second.

Our batons are loaded with potential. I liken 'batons' to 'opportunities'. Stronger opportunities create more powerful, secure batons that can deliver exceptionally rewarding relay experiences.

So, how do we create strong opportunities? Promising ones come our way when roadblocks are sidelined. A joy’ceful attitude erases roadblock mentality making room for positive change and greater personal fulfillment. #joy'ceisachoice#bejoy’ceful#areyoufullofjoy'ce?

A simple act of joy'ce

Thank you Marlyse for sharing your joy'ce story!#joy'ceon

My friend and I were hiking at the greenbelt in Austin, Texas and my car key fell out of my jacket pocket without me realizing. Once we got to the car and realized it was missing, we immediately backtracked to the small section of the greenbelt where I figured my key had fallen. We didn't find the key, so I had to call my husband who was 30 minutes away and interrupted his work to have him bring us a spare. We walked back to the car where I noticed a piece of paper under my windshield wiper. The paper was a note from two angels named Alex and Mia who had found my key, located my car, wrote a note (see below) and stuck the key in the windshield well. It's simple acts of kindness like this that can really make a person's day.

What is an ANT? by Deb

Thanks for sharing your joy'ce story Deb!

I sat in a Sunday School class with a couple married 62 years. They smiled sweetly at each other as they shared an inspiring story about staying on the sunny side of life. They explained that they were each others' "anteaters." It is easy sometimes to have an automatic negative thought (an ANT). They were supportive of one another by helping to confront negative thoughts by speaking them aloud. If you do a web search, you'll find countless folks supplying tips for"squashing" those ANTS. Watching this adorable couple wiggle an index finger up the other's arm (mimicking anteaters) epitomized joy'ce for me!

re-joy'ce: Staying Human in a Technology-Crazed World

6/8/2018

How do we keep the human element alive in a world obsessed with technology? Human connectivity is an essential part of our genetic makeup; denying it leaves us ill-nourished, leading to a state of isolation and loneliness not to mention a breakdown of social norms. How can we individually balance the technology-human continuum? How is it possible for one person to really make a difference in the midst of a mass movement?

The answer is surprisingly simple: appreciate and acknowledge the kind actions of others on a daily basis.

While there are many positive attributes of technology, let’s not allow it to standardize nor marginalize human interaction. Connect with others. Reach out. Practice joy’ce daily. #sharehumankindness#joy’ceon.

re - joy'ce: Change in Attitude

joy’ce helps me stay grounded day-to-day: searching then finding pockets of kindness and genuine intentions that enable productive and rewarding outcomes.

I wasn’t always good at this; it’s taken awhile, but I’ve learned over time the value of not reacting to churn (i.e., disruptive behavior) at least not from the same place it comes from. Distraction muddies the good that might be staring you in the face, so I usually leave it alone and try not to provoke it. However, sometimes a response is necessary to protect your boundaries and stay true to your path. Once on more neutral ground, it’s easier to listen and consider various points of view thus appreciating - finding joy’ce in - diversity of thought.

Trusting your joy’ce will shift dynamics toward a more authentic approach to desired outcomes. joy'ce erodes roadblocks to achieving potential when regularly practiced. How? By appreciating and finding delight in the actions of others.
